Story Abstract
Yeast was first published in China Times, a Chinese newspaper published in Taiwan, in 2013.
The prose, a story of a single mother and two daughters, is written in the point of view of the little sister of the family. Through her words, different concepts of life are described through the main connection- bread and yeast.
The story touched upon the generation gap in family and attitudes of life. The hobby of making bread was a time and place allowing Mother to linger in her past, which Sister could not accept. The opposition of them led to the separation of the family. Bread and yeast became a memory of Mother and their past.
