About the Author
Mary Wong (黃淑嫻博士) obtained her Ph.D. of Comparative Literature from the University ofHong Kong. She is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Chinese in LingnanUniversity teaching comparative literature, literature, and film, creative writing and media writing.
Her research interests are about literature, cinema, media, and culture. She has published various kinds of writings, ranging from creative and literary writing, book chapters to scholarly books. For example, 《水的滋味》“A Taste of Water” (2005), “Hong Kong Cinema and
Literature: Writer, Film and Adaptation 香港影像書寫:作家、電影與改編” (2013).《中環人 Surviving Central》was published in 2013. It is a collection of short stories about Hong Kong at the time before and after the handover. “Tailored” is one of the short stories in the book.
Abstract
After graduated from the university, Cheung Siu Mei decided to stay and work in Hong Kong instead of going back to Macau. However, sadly, she failed to pass the probation of her first job. Mei then came to a tailor-made boutique and ordered an expensive ball gown unintentionally. Since her optimist, Mei soon lets all the bad things go and was offered a job, which she had no idea it was temporary, in Chan Mei Lo ---- her schoolmates’ agency. Lo invited Mei to a Christmas party before she went back to Macau. There, Mei met her ex-boss ---- Chan Ming Chun. Through the conversation with Chun, Mei discovered that at first she thought this city could not affect her life, but now, things seemed to go differently...
