02 Translators' Notes
During our translation, we had to deal with difficulties finding corresponding words in English. In Particular, the translation of Chinese idiomatic expressions consists of four characters. For example, “學生說起英文時畏首畏尾,磕磕巴巴...”, the concise nature of the four-character words is not easily replicated in English. Therefore, we expanded upon the content to maintain naturalness, adhere to English conventions, and employ vivid language and concise sentence fragments.
In our final translation, we modified the phrases “畏首畏尾” and “磕磕巴巴” to “stuttered and stumbled” to capture the hesitancy of students speaking English and maintain the rhythmic element by repeating consonant sounds.
